i’ve been loving all the sweet, colorful items showing up in etsy these days. so summery! here are a few of my recent faves:

i recently got to take my first posy-related buying trip this past weekend to the liberty antique festival. olive had been sick since the tuesday before and was finally starting to show signs of her old self. suzanne, unfortunately, was home with sick kiddo #2. i took advantage of the solo time and drove for about 45 minutes without any music or interruptions or feet kicking my seat. the last 15 minutes were spent with lauryn hill…my go-to album for solo road trips. pure heaven!
it was a totally overwhelming (in a good way!) experience. tons of amazing treasures, southern smorgasbord for lunch and friendly folks everywhere. my favorite was the announcer. the first thing i heard upon entering the festival was, “if you haven’t tried the fried banana pudding, you’d better get you some!” i knew i was in the right place.
i can’t wait for my finds to hit the shop…but until then, here’s a peak at what the festival had to offer. i’m already looking forward to getting back next year!
next year, i’m bringing a wagon so my arms don’t fall off. and i’m going to space out my shopping to include more food breaks. i was really disappointed to have to walk away from the local church’s bake sale. those pies looked delicious! overall, a well-run, entertaining and educational festival. those vendors know their stuff!
i’m sort of (completely!) addicted to etsy and, now, pinterest. for years and years i’ve been filling notebooks with scraps from magazines, pictures, ideas, images i love. i also have them in a basket by my bed, in the drawer of a desk, in my purse, on the kitchen counter, and oh…so many other nooks and crannies i can’t even remember! i LOVE the jolt i get from a beautiful image and idea. i love helpful tips…like using your dishwasher for more…recently washed: bath toys, toilet plunger & tray and pollen-covered plastic toys from the porch…thank you idea book! i love before and afters and i LOVE color! most importantly, i love that people are excited to share and feed off each other’s jolts. it pushes us all forward and together. here are a few of my most recent pins & favorites:
what a cool idea for olive’s big girl room transformation:
very inspired by the different ways to create bunting…mirrors!
can’t get enough yellow right now!
this would be a neat way to price items for a market:
this just makes me SO happy!
words to live by:
i’m going to need a bigger notebook!
it’s so funny where inspiration comes from. you really have to be open so when it shows its face you’re ready to go!
a customer just bought one of our poufs (yay!) and is giving it to her daughter for her first birthday along with a stack of books. what a cool gift!! i’m really honored she’s letting posy be a part of this big milestone so i wanted to send along an extra thank you! so, to go with her book theme i thought a bookmark would come in handy. i found this neat idea here and loved mixing in my own fabrics. (what a great use for scraps!) i definitely love the idea of a cloth bookmark and am looking forward to exploring other ideas and styles. but this was a good first start!
this little nook is one of those places where i quickly realized that less would make more of an impact. sometimes the appearance of a bunch of little things, in this case, pillows, makes a spot look crowded and not-so-pretty. in fact, the whole wall was once like that with a piece of furniture for every purpose…tv stand, chair, end table, book shelves, etc. so we scrapped it all and built a solid chunk of bookshelves. the room looks twice as big as a result. and with a small home, it’s always good taking advantage of vertical space. anyway, i ditched this random grouping of pillows for a couple of biggies in a bold print and i have to say, the spot’s gone from a catch-all feel to a cozy spot for chilling out!
(the fabric was a great find at the mill outlet village in raleigh. it’s high-quality upholstery fabric marked down to $5.95/yard. love that place!)
i love getting happy mail…a note from a friend, fabric scraps from nana, my niece’s caterpillar birthday party invitation and a handmade goody from charm design.
how cute is this clutch?! even better, i won it off of suzanne’s “love to zaria” fundraiser. ranja lee is super talented and pretty darn awesome for lending a helping hand for a good cause.
posy has had great success with the children’s tea placemats i made. it’s a fun project and a good vehicle for really mixing up my fabrics. we recently had a customer who wanted a set of the kids’ mats but also wanted a full-size set for herself. i think these came out really well! they’re backed with classic ticking (my backing of choice) and add a neat punch of color to your table. thanks to “one yard wonders” for the great design and idea! coming soon…posy will be restocking the children’s tea placemats with some fun new colors and fabrics!
suzanne and i loved being at rock & shop for the first time. the folks organizing it, particularly michelle smith, did a super job making us feel welcome and a part of the handmade community. posy sold a mix of vintage, refinished and handmade goods…which was nice as it took off some of the pressure on me to make our inventory.
it’s always so interesting to see what sells from market-to-market and sometimes it’s even a little hard to let go. i wouldn’t have minded having one christmas banner leftover to hang above our stockings…but I always love thinking about where our work ends up!
(ps. i heart food trucks! and r&s couldn’t have set up a more cozy spot for enjoying all the delicious fare!)
